Pocatello Downs hosted two trials on Sunday for the $27,500 Adequan Pocatello Derby Challenge.

POCATELLO, ID—MAY 5, 2019—Two trials determined the field for the $27,500 Adequan Pocatello Derby Challenge on Sunday afternoon at Pocatello. The 400-yard final for Challenge-enrolled 3-year-olds will be held on Sunday, May 19.

The winner of the second trial posted the fastest time, as Silver Jet Dash and jockey Jesus Valenzuela stopped the clock in 19.928 and earned a 102 speed index.

Silver Jet Dash ($5.00) is owned and trained by Fredy Olmos. He was bred in Texas by Irwin Wall, out of the A Royal Jet mare Fancy Smoking Jet.

Silver Jet Dash will seek his second stakes victory in the Adequan Pocatello Downs Derby Challenge. As a 2-year-old, he won the Intermountain Futurity at Elko; he was also second in the Bitterroot Futurity at Sandy Downs and was third in the Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity at Pocatello last May.

The gelded son of Bodacious Dash made his career debut in his trial for the Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity, his first of six wins in 11 starts. He has earned $44,544 to date and is undefeated in two starts in 2019.

Jesus Valenzuela also rode the second fastest overall qualifier and winner of the first trial, Kis My Bit.

Kis My Bit covered the 400-yard distance in 20.008 and earned a 99 speed index for trainer Ricardo Castillo and owner Adrian Aleman.

Kis My Bit ($9.20) finished a neck in front of Jess Dew It, who was the fourth fastest qualifier overall.

He is still seeking his first stakes win; he debuted in a trial for the Dixie Downs Futurity last spring and finished second in the final. He has won two of his career eight starts and has earnings of over $10,000.

The 3-year-old gelding was bred in Colorado by Thomas Bradbury and Lisa Beauprez, by One Famous Eagle and out of Bits of Bliss, by Streakin La Jolla. Bits of Bliss qualified for multiple graded stakes in her career, including the 2006 edition of the Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

Third fastest qualifier Rob That Wagon led for most of the second trail before being passed late by Silver Jet Dash. His final time in the race was just a fraction off that of Kis My Bit, at 20.009.

Rob That Wagon is one of the more accomplished horses in the field. His race record already includes a six-race win streak and three stakes victories: the Bitterroot Futurity, the Sandy Downs Juvenile Challenge, and the Oneida County Futurity. He has earned $77,493 in his career to date.

Jesus Canales was aboard Rob That Wagon in Sunday’s trial for trainer Mark Hanson and owners Robin Dunn and RTM Stables, LLC. He was bred by Bob and Jerry Gaston in Texas, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, and out of the First Down Dash mare First Tea Rose, who qualified for both the Sam Houston Futurity (G1) and the Firecracker Futurity (G2) in 2006.
