SHAKOPOEE, MN—MAY 27, 2019—Stumbling at the start under jockey Jorge Torres, Curls Happy Wagon surged clear to defeat The Polar Vortex by an impressive 2 ¼ length margin in the $34,220 ARC Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge Sunday afternoon.

Saddled by trainer Stacy Charette-Hill, Curls Happy Wagon stopped the clock in :19,885 seconds to equal a 97 speed index, into a 15 mph headwind, for the 400 yards. It was the sixth career win in 12 starts for the daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon and the $16,426 winner's purse boosted her bankroll to over $197,300.

An Oklahoma homebred racing for owners Michael Pohl and Martin Stacy, Curls Happy Wagon is out of the Spit Curl Jess mare Eye A Spit Curl Girl. Already winner of the Decketta Stakes(G3) this season she was also second in the Easy Date and third in the Junos Request Stakes(G2).

This win also earned the 4-year-old filly a starting spot in the $100,000-est. ARC Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) on Bank of America Challenge Championships night at The Downs at Albuquerque, October 26th.

Runner-up The Polar Vortex racing for owner-breeder Thomas Lepic and trainer Jason Olmstead. Ry Eikleberry was aboard the 4-year-old Carters Cartel filly out of Signs Zoomer by Shazoom. She earned $7,015 to bring her earnings total to $68,843.

Weetonas Lafawn, a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred daughter of Valiant Hero, finished half-a-length back to earn $3,422 for third. Clinton Crawford trains the bay filly for owner Cavenaugh Quarter Horses, LLC. Bred by Weetona Stanley, from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Fancy, Weetonas Lafawn has earned $143,493.

Painted Dynasty, Our Lady Wagon, Silky Senator, Paine Me Southern and Pretty And Big completed the field.
