Getit Hot Prevails in Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB —JULY 28, 2019—Getit Hot won his second career stakes race in the $48,003 Adequan Evergreen Park Derby Challenge in Grande Prairie on Sunday afternoon.

Getit Hot ($8.60) was the third fastest qualifier to the regional Challenge qualifier in trials on July 14, finishing third in his trial. In his start prior to the trial, he won the All Canadian Derby at Lethbridge.

Getit Hot and Ricardo Moreno led throughout the race to win by a half-length for trainer William Leech and owner Charles Stojan. He was bred in California by Martha Wells, sired by Walk Thru Fire and out of Getit Together, by Separatist.

Post-time favorite and fastest qualifier Papas Coleen were a half-length behind the winning pair for second place.

Papas Coleen was ridden by Trevor Simpson for trainer Darcy Hawkes and owner Donalda Cochrane. Cochrane also bred the First Timber filly in Alberta, out of the Lanes Leinster mare Cash in This Lane.

Last fall, Papas Coleen was third in the Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity (G3) at Century Downs before returning to win her first start of 2019 in the final for Sunday’s Challenge qualifier.

Second fastest qualifier Chasin Harm and jockey Carl Hebert finished three-quarters of a length behind Papas Coleen in third place. The 3-year-old gelded son of Hawkinson is owned and trained by Alvin Cross Child.

Chasin Harm was bred in Utah by Reed Pierson, out of Yr Brown Lucy, by Lanes Leinster. He debuted at Laurel Brown before competing at Los Alamitos in multiple stakes, including the Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge and the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2).

Completing the field were Last Unicorn, Goldin Warrior, Timbersknightryder and You Have No Equal.
