Sam Houston Challenge Races Moved To Retama Park

Q RACING—June 2, 2020—Two Bank of America Racing Challenge races originally scheduled to be run at Sam Houston Race Park have been moved to Retama Park.

The John Deere Juvenile Challenge and Adequan® Derby Challenge regional races originally scheduled to be run at Sam Houston will move, with the added money for both races going up from $30,000 to $35,000 for each race.

Given the short time frame before the races are scheduled, both nomination and sustaining payments are due simultaneously on June 15.

"We realize this is an imposition on the nominator, but given the uncertainty of racing due to COVID-19, not only are we are pleased to be able to conduct the races, but more importantly, we appreciate the management at Retama Park for their willingness to host them," said AQHA Chief Racing Officer Janet VanBebber. "Horses that were nominated to the original races scheduled at Sam Houston will have their payments applied to these races."

The trials for the races will be held on opening weekend at Retama Park, which is scheduled for July 3, with the finals being run three weeks later on July 25.

The races will be held in conjunction with the TQHA Yearling Sale and a race card that also includes the TQHA Sale Futurity, promising a wonderful day for attendees.

For more information or to make payments, call the Racing Challenge Hotline at 877-222-7223.
