GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 2, 2010—Lucas Racing Inc.’s Little Surfer broke first out of the gate and was never caught in winning the Inaugural Running of the $42,570 Merial Distaff Challenge, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and up at 400 yards, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Dwayne Gilbreath and ridden by Jerry Lee Yoakum, Little Surfer broke alertly from the outside post (9) and never looked back at her eight opponents to finish 1 ¼ lengths in front of Ms Athenas Dividend in second.

The 4-year-old gray daughter of First Down Dash completed the 400 yards in 19.403 seconds and earned a speed iIndex of 104.

Miss Kips Streakin, the fastest qualifier from the trials held on Sept. 18, was third, a length behind Ms Athenas Dividend.

With her first trip to the Lone Star Park winner’s circle, the full sister to world champion Wave Carver and champion Ocean Runaway, improved her lifetime record to five wins from 19 starts and, with the $19,582 winner’s share, increased her career earnings to $97,999.

Little Surfer paid $13.20, $6.00, $4.20, Ms Athenas Dividend returned $4.00, $3.20, and Miss Kips Streakin paid $2.60 to show.

Completing the order of finish were: Million Maid, Surviving Success, La Jolla Suspect, Lookin Good Lou, Six It Up, Feature Miss Jesse, and Lethal Star. Feature Miss Jess and Lethal Star ran as an entry.
