RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 17, 2013—Trainer Todd Fincher sending out three dangerous horses in the $167,391 Mountain Top Thoroughbred Futurity and the sharp Im Royal Quick racing in the $20,000 Tricky Dust combine to headline a very attractive 10-race card on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.
The 870-yard Tricky Dust runs as the eighth race and the five-furlong Mountain Top Futurity for New Mexico-breds is the 10th race.
Fincher’s trio is comprised of the two-for-two F M Forty One, trial winner Reaper and trial third-place finisher Zesty Salsa.
F M Forty One has impressed in each of his two outs. After winning his maiden at first asking at Sunland Park by one-and-three-quarter lengths, the Diabolical-sired gelding moved forward to win his Mountain Top trial by four lengths with a 1:01.04 time.
Alfredo Juarez Jr. was up for each of his wins and retains the mount with the fourth post position.
R.D. Hubbard’s homebred Reaper showed promise when he won his trial by an expanding three quarters of a length. The gelding by Attila’s Storm rallied from off the pace to get the win in 1:01.82 and showed he should handle added distance in future races.
Duane Sterling has the mount with the eighth post position after being up for the trial score.
Reliance Ranches’ Zesty Salsa won her maiden in her debut at Sunland Park and then finished third in her trial, beaten by three lengths, after pushing the pace.
Zesty Salsa drew the third post position and veteran Casey Lambert will be aboard.
In the Tricky Dust, Anna Garcia and Jose Orquiz’s Im Royal Quick is the horse to beat after racing to five wins and three second-place finishes since a troubled eighth-place finish in last year’s Tricky Dust. The Jaime Aldavaz-trained Royal Quick Dash gelding won the Herman Jefferson Stakes and the King Rick Rack Stakes last fall. He comes off a front-running win in the Fine Loom Stakes as the 17-10 favorite at Ruidoso Downs.
Im Royal Quick gets to use his front-running style when he starts from the third post position with Ricky Ramirez aboard.
Racing runs on a Friday through Monday schedule at Ruidoso Downs with a 1 p.m. first post time. There is always free parking and free general admission.
