EDMONTON, ALBERTA—JULY 28, 2014—Wednesday’s 330-yard Alberta Bred Derby (R) trials at Northlands Park have drawn 25 3-year-olds, all of whom will be vying for a spot in the $25,000-est. final on August 16.

Zoomin Her Way, a sorrel daughter of the Shazoom stallion Mezoomn leased by Janis D. Calton and trained by Kurt Calton, drew post 5 in the last of three trials. On June 25, the filly ran second, a half of a length behind winner Flashy Red Corona, in the 330-yard, $32,000 Alberta Stallion Derby (R) at Northlands.

Other prominent Alberta-bred sophomores in the trials include Brian Schiebelbein’s Holdnjacks. A gelded son of champion Hawkinson trained by Laurie Ferguson, Holdnjacks has won three consecutive races, including a 400-yard, $3,600 open-condition allowance at Lethbridge on July 6.

Holdnjacks will break from post 8 in the first heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the final.
