SHELBYVILLE, IN—AUGUST 27, 2014—Six nights of all-Quarter Horse racing have been set aside during the 2014 meet at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino and Saturday, Aug. 30 will mark the fourth night where the focus is on the sprinters.

A total of 10 races will be contested with five of the races reserved for trials of the upcoming 2014 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity and two trials for the 2014 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby. The finals are set for Saturday, Sept. 13.

The first five races will showcase the two-year-olds vying for a spot in the Futurity Final. Stinkin Rich, owned by Carolyn Bruce and trained by Ron Raper, will be the one to watch in the second trial. The grey son of One Famous Eagle rallied home earlier this summer for a win in the $130,000 Jaguar Stakes. With two wins and a second in three career starts, Stinkin Rich will be guided by Indiana Grand’s leading Quarter Horse Jockey Shanley Jackson from post one.

The first Derby trial, slated as the seventh race on the card, will place two stakes winners side by side in the gates. Secret Miracle was a winner of the $73,000 Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby Saturday, July 26. The three-year-old filly is now two for three in 2014 and will get Gabriel Lagunes back in the saddle. The No Secrets Here filly is trained by Julio Almanza and is owned by Guadalupe Arevalo. She will begin her trial from post one.

Starting from post two will be another stakes winner on Saturday, July 26 for Lagunes. Pistolpacking Pepsi rolled home a winner in the $135,000 Blue River Derby, the first win for the gelded son of Jesse James Jr. this season. Alberto Pusac will ride the Ron Brown-trained gelding.

The eighth race on the card will include Chaos Reigns, winner of last year’s $102,000 Heartland Futurity. Making his first start of 2014, the Dean Miracle gelding will break from post five in the second trial of the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby. Jackson gets the call aboard the Matt Frazier-trained sophomore, who earned in excess of $57,000 last year.

The finals will be part of a special evening at Indiana Grand Saturday, Sept. 13, which will feature Brews, Blues and BBQ Fest along with PDJF Night. The jockeys at Indiana Grand will participate in several activities such as a tug of war and dunk tank throughout the night to raise funds and awareness for the PDJF (Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund).

In addition, BBQ and beverage specials will be offered to racing fans as the Ted Robinson Trio, a blues-themed band, provides live entertainment. The evening will also include a free zipline as part of the final Rush Shelby Energy Family Fun Night of 2014, offering a bounce house and face painting to younger racing fans.

The next all-Quarter Horse racing night is slated for Friday, Oct. 10. It will be followed by a full card of Quarter Horse stakes races on Saturday, Oct. 25, including the Miss Roxie Little Futurity, which is expected to offer a purse of more than $200,000, the richest in the state’s history for Quarter Horse racing.

Live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Saturday, Nov. 1 offering racing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 2:05 p.m. with Friday and Saturday action beginning at 5:05 p.m. For more information, visit the Website at indianagrand.com.
