Iowa Double Gold Futurity Tops Saturday Stakes Doubleheader at Prairie Meadows

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 28, 2014—Fastest qualifier BP Cartel Policy drew post 2 for Saturday’s 350-yard, $105,500 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (R) at Prairie Meadows.

A gelded son of Cartel Success owned by John Lawless and trained by Brent Clay, BP Cartel Policy is coming off of a 1 1/4-length in the fourth of five trials on August 16. The gelding, who has won two of his three outs, will again be ridden by Stormy Smith in the final.

C. Taylor’s Specials Jamie, a stakes winner during the Remington Park spring meet and the third-fastest qualifier, drew post 10 and will be ridden by Cesar Gomez. A bay daughter of Ivory James, the filly is trained by Kasey Willis, and three wins in five starts includes a head victory against Oklahoma-breds in the May 25, 330-yard FL Lady Bugs Stakes (R) at Remington.

The Iowa Double Gold Futurity is restricted to foals of 2012 who are progeny of stallion services sold at the 2011 Iowa Quarter Horse Racing Association Stallion Service Auction. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds--

The other half of Prairie Meadows’ Saturday stakes doubleheader, the 400-yard, $72,750 Iowa Double Gold Derby (R), has also drawn a full field of 10.

Lloyd Racing Stables LLC’s Fearless Cat, the fastest qualifier, will be ridden by Troy Crissup from post 7. Trained by Dannie Lloyd, the bay gelding by Red Storm Cat has won his last two starts, including the first of two trials on August 16.

Heza Fast Invictus, the 7-5 morning-line favorite and second-fastest qualifier, drew post 5 for owners Marty Powers and Shalia Powers. A gelded son of Mighty Invictus trained by Kasey Willis, Heza Fast Invictus has banked $118,696 from eight starts, and his six wins include victories in last year’s $102,094 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (RG3) at Prairie Meadows and $146,000 OHA Mystery Futurity (RG2) at Will Rogers Downs.
