G1 Winner Too Flash For You Draws Rail Post for New Mexico Classic Day at Zia Park

HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 20, 2014—Too Flash For You, currently the third-ranked older horse on the AQHA Racing/Horseplayernow.com national poll, will make his next start in the 440-yard, $200,000-est. New Mexico Classic Derby (RG2) at Zia Park, one of four state-bred Quarter Horse stakes at Zia Park on Sunday.

A son of champion First Moonflash racing for Jose R. Espinosa and Jim and Michelle Laird, Too Flash For You has won five consecutive races, including three stakes. The gelding’s Ruidoso Downs summer campaign included a half-length victory at odds of nearly 9-1 in the 440-yard, $1.9-million All American Derby (G1) on August 31.

Trained by Jason Giles, Too Flash For You will be ridden by Larry Gamez from post 1 in the New Mexico Classic Derby.

Bobby Simmons’ Foxy Moonflash, the fastest qualifier, will break from post 2 under jockey G.R. Carter Jr. Conditioned by C. Dwayne “Sleepy”Gilbreath, the graded stakes placed daughter of First Moonflash is coming off of a convincing 1 3/4-length win in the second of three trials on October 12.

Giles will also send out Handsome Jack Flash, last year’s AQHA champion 2-year-old and an earner of $1,492,841 from nine outs. The homebred First Moonflash gelding races for Debra Laney, Norma Alvarez, and Brenda Alvarez.

Mad About The Moon Faces Full Field in Classic Derby

Also on Sunday, a full field of 10 2-year-olds has been entered back in the 400-yard, $285,000-est. New Mexico Classic Futurity (RG2).

David G. Valdez’s Mad About The Moon, the fastest qualifier, drew post 3 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. A gelded son of First Moonflash trained by Gene Burden, Mad About The Moon was a prompt 1-2 favorite in the last of six trials on October 11.

Valdez acquired Mad About The Moon for $5,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale, and the gelding has won two of five starts and has banked $401,848. Racing at Ruidoso Downs last summer, Mad About The Moon ran second, a half of a length behind winner JM Miracle, in the 440-yard, $2.6-million All American Futurity (G1) on September 1.

Other contenders include Pedro Carrillo’s Montauk, a sorrel daughter of Dashair trained by Tony Gallegos. A $6,500 claim at Ruidoso Downs on June 27, the filly has since won all four of her outs, including the September 20, 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Senorita Futurity (R) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Coronas Boy Defends Title in New Mexico Classic 870 Championship

Victor M. Diaz’s Coronas Boy will return to defend his title in Sunday’s $140,000-added New Mexico Classic 870 Championship (R).

A homebred 5-year-old Mr Houston gelding trained by Daniel Cano, Coronas Boy drew post 1 and will be ridden by Salvador Martinez. Coronas Boy has earned $221,023 from 19 starts, and his five wins include a 6 3/4-length victory at odds of 28-1 in last year’s New Mexico Cup 870 Championship.

Storm Chasor, a homebred 4-year-old gelding by Attila’s Storm (TB) racing for Joan Dale Hubbard from the barn of Todd Fincher, drew post 3. Storm Chasor’s season record includes a wire-to-wire, neck victory in the 870-yard, $60,000 Lobo Championship Stakes (R) at The Downs at Albuquerque on August 24.

Dusty Shepherd will ride Storm Chasor on Sunday.

Miracle Snows Brings WIn Streak Into New Mexico Classic Quarter Horse Championship

Miracle Snow, a homebred 10-year-old gelding by champion Dean Miracle racing for Melvin Neugebauer of Manzanola, Colorado, will put his win streak on the line in the 440-yard, $170,000-added Namehimastreaker New Mexico Classic Quarter Horse Championship (RG1).

Trained by Jason Giles, Miracle Snow has won three consecutive races, all against New Mexico-bred stakes company. The gelding will be making his first start since August 24, when he was a prompt 3-2 favorite in the 400-yard, $63,500 Lineage Championship Stakes (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Neugebauer and Giles will also send out Here Kittykittykitty, a 7-year-old Genuine Strawfly gelding who has won four consecutive races and is the defending champion in this stakes. Here Kittykittykitty will racing for the first time since March 9, when he scored a head victory in the 350-yard, $85,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park.
