LOS ALAMITOS, CA— OCTOBER 24, 2014—Magoo and El Sunol Grade, a pair of 870-yard stakes winners at Los Alamitos, will take on a field that includes Quarter Horse distance standout Follow The Dream and the veteran Time For A Royal Dip in Saturday’s $16,000 Gold Rush Handicap. A full field of eight will race in the Gold Rush, which is scheduled as the ninth and final race on the card. First post time is 6:30 p.m.

Racing for Lewis Greenspan and trained by Keith Craigmyle, Magoo will come into the Gold Rush after a hard-fought victory in the El Ocho Setenta Handicap on August 30. The gelding by Bring The Heat raced four-wide in the stakes event, but was flying late on the way to earning his second score of the year at 870 yards. A winner of eight of 19 career starts, Magoo has been one of the most consistent runners at Los Alamitos this season. Bred by Wesley Ward and John Haagsma, Magoo has won four of nine starts this season while hitting the board in eight of those outings. Gary Boag will ride.

Cal West Racing’s The Sunol Grade won his first four career starts at Los Alamitos, a streak that was culminated by half-length victory in the Snowbound Superstar Handicap. The Sunol Grade then ran second to Mi Agave in an allowance race before having a tough trip when falling out of contention early in the El Ocho Setenta. Ramon Guce will pilot The Sunol Grade for trainer Lorenzo Ruiz.

Raul Moreno’s Mi Agave could be the horse to beat after winning four of his last five starts. He beat by daylight Time For A Royal Dip and El Ocho Setenta runner-up Moonshine Ridge in his last out and three races ago he had that score over The Sunol Grade. Jose Moreno trains the winner of eight of 17 starts. Follow The Dream, who won a pair of allowances around the turn earlier this year, figures to provide early speed and is the most consistent 870 Quarter Horse on the grounds. Alex Bautista will ride Follow The Dream.
