FARMINGTON, NM—AUGUST 26, 2015—Beau Wizer (TB), a two-time stakes winner during The Downs at Albuquerque spring meet, is one of seven state-breds entered in Sunday’s 870-yard, $45,000 New Mexico Horsemen’s Association Handicap (R) at SunRay Park.
A 7-year-old son of Premeditation (TB), Beau Wizer was claimed by his owner, Duane Cugnini of Durango, Colorado, for $15,000 at Sunland Park on March 15. Since then, the gelding has won two of four starts, including the 7-furlong, $60,000 O.D. McDonald Stakes (R) on April 18, and the 870-yard, $60,000 Lobo Championship Stakes (R) on May 10.
Alfredo Juarez Jr. will ride Beau Wizer from post 7 for trainer Wes Giles.
Other contenders include Joan Dale Hubbard’s Storm Chasor, a homebred 5-year-old Attila’s Storm (TB) gelding trained by Todd Fincher. Storm Chaser is coming off of a third-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner DE Wagons Strawfly, in the July 26, $50,000 Zia 870 Championship (R) at Ruidoso Downs.
Storm Chasor drew post 4 and will be ridden by Aldo Arboleda.
