Champ Kiss My Hocks In Strong $2.3 Million All American Derby Today

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 6, 2015—Conda Maze and Tyler Graham’s champion Kiss My Hocks tries to take a huge step towards another championship when he faces a deep field in the Grade 1, $2,378,383 All American Derby over 440 yards today (Sunday) at Ruidoso Downs.

First post time is noon with free parking and free general admission.

Post positions will be drawn and jockeys announced during a special drawon Thursday at Ruidoso Downs.

Also on Saturday’s program is the $100,000 First Down Dash for three-year-olds who did not qualify for the All American Derby.

The summer season at Ruidoso Downs concludes on Monday, Labor Day, with First Valiant Sign the probable favorite in the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity. It is the largest purse of any two-year-old race in the world.

Kiss My Hocks is the reigning champion two-year-old and two-year-old colt. He won the Grade 1, $1,067,761 Rainbow Derby on July 18 and is the number-one ranked older horse in the weekly AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com national poll by one vote. An All American Derby win would solidify his position for a 2015 championship and his spot atop the poll.

The Toby Keeton-trained Kiss My Hocks raced to his 2014 titles with wins in the Grade 1, $700,000 Ruidoso Futurity and the Grade 2, $563,950 Sam Houston Futurity. He was second in the Grade 1, $900,000 Rainbow Futurity. The colt set 330-yard track record at Sam Houston Race Park in first start.

After winning the Rainbow Derby in July, Kiss My Hocks returned in the All American Derby trials on August 23. He rolled to a one-length win as the 1-9 favorite with the fifth-fastest qualifying time of :21.547 for 440 yards.

A son of Tempting Dash, Kiss My Hocks has earned $1,145,861 with $918,481 of that total coming at Ruidoso Downs. The All American Derby winner takes $998,920.

Rancho el Cabresto Inc.’s Apollitical Blood topped the 12 All American Derby trials when he raced to a :21.352 time while winning the seventh trial by two-and-one-quarter lengths.

Apollitical Blood, a son of Apollitical Jess, qualified for four Grade 1 futurities last year. He finished second in the Grade 1, $989,800 Golden State Million Futurity and was fourth in the Grade 1, $2.6 million All American Futurity.

Trainer Victor Rodriguez-Flores will be represented by second-fastest qualifier Mad About The Moon and fourth-fastest qualifier Dynazip.

David Valdez’s Mad About The Moon was second in last year’s All American Futurity and has been first or second in nine of 10 career starts.

The New Mexico-bred son of First Moonflash earned his spot in the All American Derby when he won the second trial by three quarters of a length with a :21.455 time.

Martin Ibarra’s Dynazip, a son of Fdd Dynasty, ran the race of his career when he won his trial by two lengths at 11-1 odds. He was clocked in :21.469 for his second win from nine starts.

Dick Harrison and Jim Helzer’s Politicaly Correct was a $50,000 supplemental nominee and came through in the final trial with the third-fastest time of :21.464 while winning by one-and-one-quarter length.

The Apollitical Jess gelding trained by Helzer, Politicaly Correct won only one of five starts last year, however has thrived this year with five wins and a second in the Grade 2, $369,910 Heritage Place Derby. He won the $268,000 Oklahoma Derby and the $40,000 Hialeah El Nino Stakes.

In the First Down Dash, also at 440 yards, Ruidoso Derby runner-up Glock meets Rainbow Derby third-place finisher Cobalt Creek.

Paul Blanchard’s Glock, a son of Foose, finished in a dead heat for the win in his All American Derby trial with You N Me, who will also run in the First Down Dash.

The Paul Jones-trained Glock has stepped forward this year while also qualifying for the Rainbow Derby. He had a troubled trip in the Rainbow Derby.

Vwp Jr. Inc.’s Cobalt Creek was moved up to third place in the Rainbow Derby after a disqualification. He also qualified for the Ruidoso Derby.

The All American Derby will be the ninth race and the First Down Dash will run as the sixth race on the 10-race program.
