Timely Delivery Heads Wild West Futurity Trials

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 2, 2015—A talented crop of juveniles from the Intermountain and Northwest regions plus Nevada and Canada will be in action in a quartet of trials to the Wild West Futurity on Sunday Los Alamitos. The trials will be contested at 350-yards with the horses with the 10 fastest times advancing to the $126,150 final to be held on Sunday, October 25. First post time for the nine-race card on Sunday is 5:44 p.m. (PDT).

The running of The Plan Handicap held here last month figures to play a key role in the trials. Seven out of the eight runners in The Plan Handicap will run in the Wild West trials including the top six finishers. Mark and Peggy Brown’s Timely Delivery was outstanding in his return to Los Alamitos, as he cruised to win The Plan by a half-length. Trained by Rafael Orozco and to be ridden by Cesar De Alba, the son of multiple G1 sire Volcom bumped at the start of The Plan, but quickly regained control en route to his second career victory. Timely Delivery will head the second trial of the night.

The opening trial will feature second place finisher in The Plan Handicap, Gary and Jeralyn Messenger’s Fames Jess Sweet, and third place finisher, Reed Pierson’s Swiper B Sonic. For Pierson, the longtime Quarter Horse owner will be going after his second straight win in the Wild West after winning last year’s running with Cartels Fire. Swiper B Sonic ran fourth in the John Deere California Juvenile Challenge two races ago and prior to that he won his trial to the race.

Fames Jess Sweet ran a game second to Timely Delivery in The Plan in her first ever outing at Los Alamitos. The One Sweet Jess filly dominated the Idaho Cup Futurity in her previous start, easily winning by a length. She also ran third in the Bitterroot Juvenile Stakes earlier in the season. Denny and Sandy Weigt’s Carters Cartel filly Prize Pearl, the runner-up in the Pot O Gold Futurity earlier this season, will also compete in this race.

Skeen, Riley and Knight’s On Fire finished nicely when fourth in The Plan and looks to be one of the main contenders in the third trial of the night. The New Mexico-bred gelding won the Dixie Futurity in Utah earlier this year. Johnny Trotter’s Bo Dash Back finished out of the money in a couple of futurities in Idaho, but she was lights out in her Los Alamitos debut when posting a daylight conditioned allowance win.

Abelardo Gonzalez’s Royaltys Lady, a winner of three straight races, will also compete in this heat. Ed Giles Futurity winner RGR First To Fire will headline the fourth and final trial. He’ll be joined by Pot O Gold winner Tickle Ur Fancy in this heat.
