HIALEAH, FL—FEBRUARY 1, 2016—Fast Flyin Fireball and Do U Zoom are among the 35 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 400-yard Sunshine State Derby (R) trials at Hialeah Park.
A bay son of This Flights For You trained by Donnie Strickland for owner Adina Baker, Fast Flyin Fireball is coming off of a second-place finish, a nose behind winner Who Jack, in the January 17, 350-yard Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association Derby (R) at Hialeah. The gelding will be ridden by Benito Baca from post 8 in the second of four trials.
Do U Zoom races for Full Circle Racing and Cummings Cattle Co. from the barn of trainer Matt Frazier. A gelded son of Jess Zoomin, Do U Zoom will be making his first start since October 5, when he ran second, a head behind winner Panther Hero, in the 400-yard, $114,000 Alex Picov Memorial Futurity (R) at Ajax Downs.
Do U Zoom drew post 3 and will be ridden by Raul Gutierrez in the fourth heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $200,000-Guaranteed Sunshine State Derby final on February 27.
