Beehive Futurity Headlines Saturday Stakes Tripleheader in Utah

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—MAY 6, 2016—Fastest qualifier BK Katmandu drew post 7 for Saturday’s 300-yard, $69,175 Beehive Futurity (R) at Laurel Brown Racetrack near Salt Lake City.

A homebred son of the Mr Jess Perry stallion First Prize Stone trained by Ron Moosman for owner Bryce Moosman, BK Katmandu made his debut with a one-length victory in the seventh of eight trials on April 23. Jesus Canales has been named to ride the gelding in the final.

Elias Escalera’s Making Hot Wheels, a sorrel son of Maknmoves trained by Ismael Salvidrez and the second-fastest qualifier, won the sixth heat by a clear 2 3/4 lengths in his first lifetime start. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Alan Miramontes.

Laurel Brown Open Derby

Sam Allie’s JRs Blue Boy, a homebred gray Fantastic Corona Jr gelding and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 3-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $20,818 Laurel Brown Open Derby.

Trained by Riley Moosman, JRs Blue Boy set the fastest qualifying time with his one-length win in the first of three trials on April 22. The gelding has won all four of his outs, including last year’s 350-yard, $33,000 Intermountain Futurity at the Elko County Fair meet in Nevada.

JRs Blue Boy drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jesus Valenzuela.

Fastest qualifier Heza Lacey J Jr will attempt to repeat his impressive trial performance in the 330-yard, $23,272 SVLAC Futurity on Saturday.

Trainer Riley Moosman will saddle fastest qualifier Heza Lacy J in the SVLAC Futurity at Laurel Brown Racetrack.

A homebred son of champion Carters Cartel trained by Riley Moosman for owner Sam Allie Jr., Heza Lacey J Jr made his debut with a four-length win in the first of four trials on April 23. Jesus Valenzuela will ride the gelding from post 4 in the final.
