Big Profitt Draws Rail Post for Rocky Heinzig Stakes

TULSA, OK—JULY 25, 2016—Wade Helton’s Big Profitt, a 3-year-old son of Valiant Hero and a finalist in this year’s Heritage Place Derby (G2), drew the rail post for Friday’s 350-yard, $15,000 Rocky Heinzig Stakes at Fair Meadows at Tulsa.

Trained by Fernando Carrete, Big Profitt opened his sophomore campaign with a three-race win streak that included the 300-yard, $20,000 Sparkling Tip Stakes at Hialeah Park on February 21. James Flores will ride the sorrel gelding in the Rocky Heinzig.

Other contenders include Pollitical Scorpion, a homebred filly by Apollitical Jess trained by Luis Villafranco for owner Jahree Standridge. Pollitical Scorpion is coming off of a nose victory in the 350-yard, $70,000 Easy Date Handicap (R) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park on May 29.

Pollitical Scorpion drew post 10 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado.

Walter Merrick Memorial Stakes

Also on Saturday, an overflow field of 10 Oklahoma-breds has been entered in the 870-yard, $17,500 Walter Merrick Memorial Stakes (R).

Blazen Panther, a 5-year-old gelding by champion Panther Mountain owned and trained by Luz Chavira, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Daniel Torres. Blazen Panther has won two of his three starts at the 870 distance, with his only setback being a second-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Painted Josy, in the June 25, $15,000 Expo Square Stakes at Fair Meadows.
