TQHA kicked off their 2016 Yearling Sale on Friday in San Antonio, Texas. The second sessions gets underway Saturday at 10 am.

$100,000 Yearling Kicks Off 2016 TQHA Yearling Sale

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 29, 2016—Mary G. Thompson went to $100,000 to purchase a colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle during the opening session of the TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio on Friday. Granada Farm, Agent for Pete Scarmardo, consigned the colt, This Is An Eagle, as Hip 81.

The sorrel colt is out the graded stakes producing First Down Dash mare Lady Lilia, a half-sister to G3 winner Desirio, G2 winner Corona For The Lady and stakes winner No Ordinary Love.

The first of two sessions saw 88 of 131 head offered sale for a $1,031,000 gross. The average was $11,943 and median price $8,000.

"The first day ended pretty positive and we are looking forward to what tomorrow brings," TQHA Executive Director Val Clark said Friday evening.

Leading Texas breeder/owner Bobby D. Cox paid $42,000 for Hip 94, Tempting The Ladies, a Tempting Dash colt out of Cartels Lady, by Carters Cartel, Southwest Stallion Station, Agent for Dr. Tommy Hays was the consignor.

Bill Melson, Agent signed the ticket for Heur, a colt by leading second crop sire American Runway. The royally bred colt from the multiple Grade 1 winner Jess Genuine, by Mr Jess Perry, brought a final bid of $37,000. Bobby D. Cox was the consignor.

Mary Thompson led all first day buyers with the one purchase for $100,000. Elizabeth Horton had three head totaling $61,500 and Jose Espinoza paid $55,000 for two yearlings.

Bobby D. Cox was the day 1 leading consignor with 14 yearlings grossing $256,700. Granada Farm, Agent for Pete Scarmardo had two head total $106,000 and Granada Farm, Agent for Johnny Trotter sold four head for $70,000.

One Famous Eagle led all sires on day one (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $58,000. Mr Jess Perry had three head average $24,667 and Tempting Dash saw six head average $24,000.

Champion Hez Our Secret, who had four head average $14,800, led first "Sale Crop" sires. Krash Cartel had two head for $6,500.
