Heritage Place Yearling Sale Finishes Strong Despite Market

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—SEPTEMBER 24, 2016—A strong closing session on Saturday boosted across the board numbers for the just concluded three-day Heritage Place September Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.

Despite the gross and average being off -10% from last year Saturday's session boosted those percentages from the previous two days. The three-day sale saw 675 head sell for $9,599,100 compared to 677 sold in 2015 for a $10,708,100 gross. The average of $14,221 this year fell below the $15,817 figure in 2015.

The median price improved to $9,500, off only -2% from 2015's $9,700.

"We had a great finish to the sale today," Heritage Place General Manger Spence Kidney said late Saturday. "The third day average increased 3% over last year’s third day average."

Kidney added, "All things considered we are pleased with the final results of the sale. We wish everyone much success and look forward to a great Fall Mixed sale the first weekend of November."

William E. Smith paid $200,000 for the high-seller, Hip 761 Apollitical Seis, a brother to multiple stakes winner Politicaly Correct. JEH Stallion Station, Agent for Walter R. Harrison, consigned the son of leading third crop sire Apollitical Jess from the Tres Seis mare Senorita Tres.

The partnership of Smith, Blanchard, Hays and Benson paid $100,000 in Friday's session for Hip 409 Ride The Tiger, a colt by Mr Jess Perry from the first crop of Valley Junction Futurity(G3) winner Ride My Wagon, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Michael Pohl was the consignor.

Jose J. Espinoza purchased the third high-seller from Saturday's session, Hip 605 Destiny Corona for $93,000 from Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for McColee Land & Livestock, LLC. The Corona Cartel colt is out of the RG3 winning Mr Jess Perry mare Dashingfordestiny, dam of West Texas Derby(G3) winner Tempting Destiny.

Ramon R. Vega was the sale's leading buyer with 30 purchases for $365,000. Jose Augel / Santos paid $258,500 for eight yearlings and Rachuan Suarez MVZ bought 24 head for $240,300.

Bobby D. Cox was the sale's leading consignor or agent with 34 head grossing $704,200. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent sold 43 head for $691,200 and Marty Powers, Agent had 37 head bring $499,900.

Leading living sire Corona Cartel was the leading sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with 11 head averaging $46,227. The #2 leading living sire Mr Jess Perry had 16 yearlings average $39,188 and all-time leading sire First Down Dash had six yearlings for $29,333.

Champion Hez Our Secret was the sale's leading "first crop sale sire" (by average with two or more sold) with 12 head averaging $14,392.
