$430,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity Set For Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 29, 2016—Juan Humberto Moya’s Thirty Six Curls has been one of the young revelations of the past six weeks at Los Alamitos Race Course. The Tres Seis gelding broke his maiden by 3/4 lengths in his racing debut on August 26 and then followed up with an impressive half-length victory in the second of a full night of trials to the Grade 2, $430,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity final to be held on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

The Breeders Futurity is the richest racing event held on this weekend in which Los Alamitos is also hosting its annual two-day Equine Sale. Day one of the sale took place on Saturday morning, while day two will take on Sunday morning starting at 10 a.m. The sale is conducted on the former Cypress golf course grounds adjacent to the track. The purse for this year’s PCQHRA Breeders Futurity also represents a 12% increase from the final purse in 2015.

To be ridden by Cruz Mendez for Jose Flores, Thirty Six Curls will start from post number three while looking for his third career win in as many starts. Bred by Parsons Ranch, the gelding is out of the mare Fire In The Curl, an unraced daughter of Walk Thru Fire from family of the stakes winning Thoroughbred mare In The Curl, which is also the mother of champion broodmare Runaway Wave. This is the family of Champion of Champions winners Ocean Runaway and Wave Carver.

Leading Quarter Horse pilot Cesar De Alba stays aboard Start Somethin Bad and will ride the champion Paul Jones’ trainee from post number five.

Abigail Kawananakoa’s Racy High Roller qualified to the Grade 1, $1,110,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity earlier this season. The gelding by One Famous Eagle ran fourth in the Ed Burke only behind winner Chazaq, two-time futurity runner-up Worth Doing and Lotta Blues Man, whose family includes All American Futurity finalists Heza Fast Man and Lotta Love For Robyn. Trained by Chris O’Dell and ridden by Cody Jensen, Racy High Roller finished second in his trial.
