BOSSIER CITY, LA—-JANUARY 23, 2017—Jess Bein The Hero, a stakes-placed son of Valiant Hero racing for Juan F. Martinez-Labastida, will make his first start against aged runners in Saturday’s 350-yard, $15,000 Swift Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
Trained by Miguel Rodriguez, Jess Bein The Hero will be making his first start since December 17, when the stallion ran second, a half of a length behind winner Ivan James, in the 400-yard Evangeline Downs Derby. Jess Bein The Hero has earned $35,553 from three outs while racing exclusively in Louisiana.
Jess Bein The Hero drew post 9 and will be ridden by Santiago Mendez.
Other contenders include Hugo Morales’ Specials Jess, a 5-year-old Spit Curl Jess gelding trained by Eusevio Huitron. Specials Jess is coming off of a 2016 campaign during which he banked $67,630 from five starts and scored a clear 1 1/4-length victory in the 400-yard, $70,000 Boyd Morris Memorial Handicap (R) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park.
Cesar Gomez will ride Specials Jess from post 8.

A field of eight Louisiana-bred distaffers has been entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $25,000 Party Girl Stakes (R).
Rbd Jessaswingin, a multiple stakes placed 5-year-old Swingin Jess mare trained by Yoani Abreu for owner Jaime Gutierrez, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Alfonso Lujan. Rbd Jessaswingin earned $36,750 from 10 races last season, and her resume included second-place finishes in the 350-yard, $50,000 Audubon Stakes (R) at Fair Grounds Racecourse, and the 220-yard, $20,000 Evangeline Downs Dash Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
