Summer Sale Graduates Debut In Retama Schooling Races on Friday

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 16, 2017—A number of 2016 summer sale graduates are set to make their debut in schooling races on Friday at Retama Park. The San Antonio area racetrack has carded 16 races with 14 scheduled for two-year-olds.

First post is set for noon (CST) with each race to run over a 250-yard course.

Nearly half of the 97 two-year-olds entered came from yearling sales in Texas, California, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

Trainer John Buchanan will saddle a $60,000 Heritage Place Yearling repurchase for owner/breeder Bobby D. Cox. Aeropodium, a colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle, from the Grade 1 producer Modice by Strawfly Special, will start in Race 10. The colt is a half-brother to West Texas Futurity(G1) winner No Dice Special.

Run For President, a $36,000 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale graduate will also start in Race 10. J. Saucedo conditions the colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess from the two-time champion mare Deelish by First Down Dash. Run For President is a half-brother to graded winners Deeheiress, Da Edge and DeCash.

Mi Rey Cartel, a $27,000 TQHA repurchase, will start in the final race for owners Jose Estrada and Paul Lozolla. M. Medina trains the colt by champion sire The Louisiana Cartel out of Behold Those Eyes by Gol.

Eusevio Huitron will saddle Brillianz, a Mr Jess Perry filly from the First Down Dash Zenergy in Race 3. Owned by Jose Espinoza, the sorrel filly brought a final bid of $26,000 at last summer's TQHA Sale in San Antonio.

Huitron will also saddle Espinoza's Look One Time, a $24,000 Ruidoso Select Sale graduate, in the aforementioned Race 10. The daughter of world champion One Dashing Eagle is out of the Grade 1 winner Executive Looks by Executive Menace. Look One Time is a half-sister to 2016 Los Alamitos Super Derby(G1) winner Big Lew.

Retama's 2-year-old schooling races on Friday will begin with race 3 and continue through race 16.

Results with individual times for the 2-year-old races will be posted Friday evening in the Racing Section of StallioneSearch.com as soon as it becomes available from Retama Park.

Additional schooling races at the track are scheduled for March 3 and March 17. Entries will close by 11 a.m. the preceding Thursday each week and the horsemen must furnish the track with copies of the front and back of all foal registration certificates.
