SUNLAND PARK, NM-—MARCH 4, 2017—Princess Jesse, a homebred daughter of Jesse James Jr owned and trained by Vance Mikkelson of Belen, New Mexico, will make her 4-year-old debut in Saturday’s 350-yard, $85,000 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Princess Jesse brings in a three-race win streak that includes a 1 1/4-length victory in the September 25, 400-yard New Mexico State Fair Breeders’ Derby (R) at Albuquerque Downs, and a head win in the December 31, 400-yard Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap (RG1) at Sunland Park. The mare drew the rail post and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala.
Other contenders include Seeyalateralligator, a homebred 5-year-old son of Winners Version trained by Wes Giles for owners Ezra Lee and Jason Giles. The gelding will be shortening in distance off of his neck victory as the 2-1 favorite in the 440-yard, $85,000 Dona Ana County Stakes (R) at Sunland Park on January 29.
The 3-1 morning-line favorite, Seeyalateralligator drew post 5 and will be ridden by Salvador Martinez.
