Summer Sale Yearlings Highlight Training Races at Retama Park on Friday

SELMA, TX—MARCH 2, 2017—Forty-six summer yearling sale graduates will be among the season's new 2-year-olds who are set to participate in 12 schooling races at Retama Park on Friday.

The San Antonio area racetrack will also host two races for 3-year-old and up maidens. First post is set for noon (CT).

A pair of six-figure yearlings are will be making their debuts in Friday's races.

John Stinebaugh will saddle Hes Limitless, a $105,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling repurchase in Race 6. He has named Gilbert Ortiz to ride the son of leading sire Corona Cartel for owner Jack Smith Farms.

The Oklahoma-bred colt is from the first crop of AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Filly PJ Chick In Black. Also, trained by Stinebaugh the Desirio filly won eight races including the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity and earned $652,081.

Trainer Leon Bard will saddle 2016 $100,000 TQHA Yearling Sale high-seller, This Is An Eagle, for owner Mary Thompson in race 9.

Francisco Calderon will ride the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle from the grade 2 stakes-producing First Down Dash mare Lady Lilia. Her first foal This Is A Deal finished second in the 2015 Grade 2 $621,100 Sam Houston Futurity.

Lady Lilia is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner and champion sire, the aforementioned Desirio. The second dam is Grade 1 winner Lady Tenaya.
