SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 8, 2017—Klassic Strawfly, an 11-year-old son of Genuine Strawfly racing for Yaneth Cabrera of Peralta, New Mexico, is one of 10 aged sprinters entered back in Friday’s 400-yard, $115,113 West Texas Maturity (G3) at Sunland Park.
The fastest qualifier, Klassic Strawfly is coming off of a three-quarter length victory in the second of three West Texas Maturity trials on February 17. Last season, the gelding earned $208,290 from eight starts, and his six wins included three stakes.
Klassic Strawfly drew post 8 and will be ridden by Alejandro Medellin for trainer Alfredo Gomez. His nine opponents include defending West Texas Maturity champion Once Over, an 8-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding trained by Jose Luis Marquez for owner Jaime Bujanda. Once Over’s two wins in as many official starts last year included a nose victory in the West Texas Maturity.
Once Over drew post 6 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr.
