Jess Ravin Goes For Another Stakes Win On Saturday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 16, 2017—EG High Desert Farms’ outstanding mare Jess Ravin will go after the fifth stakes victory of her career and her second this season when she leads a field of eight in the $15,000 Corona Kool Handicap on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala for trainer Yanet Rodriguez, Jess Ravin won three stakes races last year including the Las Damas Handicap over older mares.

The Oklahoma-bred mare did well in major derbies as well, running second in the La Primera Del Ano Derby and third in the Golden State Derby.

In her 2017 debut, the daughter of Corona Cartel flew from post number three and went wire to wire to post a half-length victory in the Flare For Toby Handicap. She’ll come into Saturday’s Corona Kool at 350 yards with a record of seven wins in 13 career starts. She’s won five of her last eight outings. Her full brother, Jess Cuervo, is currently the #2 Leading First Crop Sire.

Ed Allred’s Walk Thru Fire filly Perky is one to watch after wins in her last two starts. That includes an allowance at the end of 2016 and a victory over $20,000 claimers at the end of January.

Vince Genco and Paul Jones’ Give Me Sum Sugar is another runner to contend with after winning two of her last three races. The Good Reason SA filly's most recent win was a hard-fought one as she came on top by only a nose.

Flare For Toby runner-up All Right Now will be looking to defeat Jess Ravin this time around. Four others will race.
