Oklahoma Futurity Set For Saturday, Historic Race Leads Total Program Worth Over $1 Million

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 22, 2017—The first of many Remington Park racing programs worth more than $1 million this American Quarter Horse Season is on tap for Saturday night. The historic $525,050 Oklahoma Futurity headlines the stellar 12-race card, featuring five stakes events.

The 76th running of Quarter Horse racing’s longest running futurity will take place in race eight. Overall, the dozen races on Saturday total to $1,094,500 in purse money. The first race of the night is at 6pm with the Oklahoma Futurity slated for 9:09pm.

Ima China Rush posted the top time at 300 yards over 17 trials conducted on March 11 to determine the Oklahoma Futurity field. Owned by her breeder, Sherry Gilmore of Sallisaw, Okla. and trained by Guillermo Valdivia, Ima China Rush won her trial by 1-1/4 lengths in convincing fashion. Jockey Larry Payne was aboard for the sharp trial score and keeps the mount on the morning-line favorite.

Remington Park odds-maker Jerry Shottenkirk installed Ima China Rush at 2-1 odds. An Oklahoma-bred filly by Rushago from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Ima Pyc China Doll, Ima China Rush won the second trial of the night. Also, qualifying for the Oklahoma Futurity from the same trial were Krash Master and Chasin My Desire.

The field for the Grade 3 Oklahoma Futurity, by program and post position, with trainer, jockey and morning-line odds:

  3. Ima China Rush: Guillermo Valdivia, Larry Payne, 2-1

  5. PYC Fun N Fancy: Luz Chavira, jockey to be named, 5-1
  6. Im Jess Sweet: Everardo Escamilla-Gonzalez, Oscar Delgado, 15-1
  7. Lions Express: Erika Huitron, Edwuin Lujan, 12-1
  8. Chasin My Desire: Luz Chavira, Mario Delgado, 15-1
  9. Ima Louisiana Girl: Trey Wood, Ricky Ramirez, 8-1

Other stakes races on the lucrative Oklahoma Futurity night program this Saturday at Remington Park include:

  • Race 6 – Grade 1, $112,400 Oklahoma Paint/Appaloosa Futurity, 300yds
  • Race 7 – Grade 1, $46,900 Speedhorse Graham Paint/Appaloosa Derby, 350yds
  • Race 9 – Grade 3, $251,000 Oklahoma Derby, 350yds
  • Race 10 - $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile, 300yds

The 2017 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park continues Thursday thru Sunday, March 23-26. Racing is underway at 6pm on all dates except Sunday afternoon, starting at 1:30pm.

The Grade 3, $525,050 Oklahoma Futurity headlines a stakes-laden program on Saturday night. The rich undercard includes: the Grade 3, $251,000 Oklahoma Derby; the Grade 1, $112,305 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile and the Grade 1, $46,900 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby.
