Stakes Winners Fill Field For $100,000 Leo Stakes at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 29, 2017—The $100,000 Leo Stakes drew a stellar field of previous stakes winners for the Saturday, April 1 event at Remington Park.

The first Grade 1 race of the season for older American Quarter Horses is long on talent, led by last year’s Leo Stakes winner Zooming Effortlessly.

Owned by Telesforo Perrett of Houston and trained by Edelmiro Carrizales, Zoomin Effortlessly won the 2016 edition of the Leo Stakes as part of a huge campaign that included four stakes wins from seven such attempts. Zoomin Effortlessly will be ridden by Santos Carrizales and has been labeled as the morning-line favorite at 2-1 odds by line-maker Jerry Shottenkirk.

Zoomin Effortlessly also won the Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Championship (as the 4-5 wagering favorite) in 2016 but was disqualified, post-race, due to a medication violation. In his seven stakes attempts in 2016, the 6-year-old son of Zoomin For Bux crossed the finish-line first in five races and was second in his last two starts of the year.

Owned by Terry McLean of Claremore, Okla. and trained by her husband Gerry McLean, jockey James Flores will once again ride the 5-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding who is at 10-1 morning-line odds.

Big Lew, a sharp winner in a March 19 allowance race at Remington Park, is at 4-1 morning-line odds. Owned by Reliance Ranches of Guthrie, Okla. and trained by Mike Robbins, the Corona Cartel 4-year-old won the Los Alamitos Super Derby in November 2016 before finishing a quality third in the Champion of Champions the next month in southern California.

A field of 10, 3-year-olds and older, will contest the Leo Stakes on Saturday night in race 10 at approximately 10:01pm. The field, by program and post-position number, with trainer, jockey and morning-line odds:
