OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 4, 2017—A total of 217 Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in this weekend’s Remington Park Futurity (RG2) trials at Remington Park.

A dozen 330-yard trials will be run on Friday, followed by 12 more on Saturday. The five fastest qualifiers from each night will meet in the April 22 final, which will offer a stakes-record purse of $1,032,400, marking the first time in its history that the purse of the Remington Park Futurity will top the $1-million mark.

Preston L. Cloud’s Hez Our Prize, a recent maiden winner against Oklahoma-breds, drew post 8 and will be ridden by Daniel Torres for trainer Clint Crawford in the 12th trial on Friday. A gray son of Hez Our Secret and a $15,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the gelding made his debut with a one-length victory in a 250-yard maiden dash on March 10.

This year’s Remington Park Futurity purse received a supplemental bump, as the connections of Double Eagle paid $25,000 to enter the trials. Trained by Kenny Laymon for owner JK Running Horses of Neosho Falls, Kansas, the One Dashing Eagle filly broke her debut on March 26. Cristian Esqueda will ride Double Eagle from post 6 in Saturday’s sixth heat.

Saturday’s eighth trial has drawn a pair of recent maiden winners, Jahree Standridge’s Admiral Sting, a homebred colt by Apollitical Jess, and Apollitical Wagon, a homebred gelded son of Apollitical Jess campaigned by Georgina Chavira and Rito Sosa.

Admiral Sting made his debut with a half-length victory in a 250-yard, $16,100 maiden-special weight dash on March 24. The colt drew post 3 and will be ridden by Mario Delgado.

Apollitical Wagon will be ridden by Daniel Torres for trainer Luz Chavira from post 6. Making his career debut on March 17, the bay gelding scored a three-quarter length victory in :13.255 for 250 yards.
