Weber Downs kicks off with trials for the Sherm Hadley / Ed Giles Memorial Futurity on Saturday.

OGDEN, UT—APRIL 20, 2017—A total of 98 2-year-olds has been entered in Saturday’s 300-yard Sherm Hadley/Ed Giles Memorial Futurity trials at Weber Downs.

Of the 98 juveniles entered in the 13 heats, 95 will be making their first official starts. One of three previous starters, Ed McNeil’s One Sweet Dance, made her debut with a second-place finish in a 330-yard Sam Houston Futurity (G2) trial at Sam Houston Race Park on April 8.

A homebred daughter of One Sweet Jess trained by Monty Arrossa, One Sweet Dance drew post 3 and will be ridden by Francisco Ramirez Jr. in the ninth trial.

Panthers Fast Dash ships in from Remington Park in Oklahoma City, where the son of Coronas Fast Dash made his debut with a third-place finish in a 250-yard, $16,100 maiden-special-weight dash on March 24. Owned and trained by Julio Corral, the Colorado-bred gelding will be ridden by Oscar Cervantes from post 6 in the 13th heat.

Corral will also send out Coronafordenim, a sorrel daughter of Coronas Fast Dash, for owner Jorge Nava. Coronafordenim is coming off of a fourth-place finish in her debut, a 250-yard, maiden claiming sprint at Remington Park on March 23.

Cervantes will ride Coronafordenim from post 6 in the 11th trial.

The fastest qualifiers will meet in the $77,385 Sherm Hadley/Ed Giles Memorial Futurity final on May 6.
