OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 1, 2017—A total of seven American Quarter Horse stakes, headlined by Oklahoma’s richest race for any breed, are on the schedule for Remington Park on Saturday, closing night of the track’s 50-date spring meet.

A total of $2,274,875 in purses will be offered for 12 races on Saturday. Ten 2-year-olds have been entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $1,154,700 Heritage Place Futurity (G1). However, three of the finalists -- Every Chicks Favorit, Hez Our Boy, and All American Stone -- will be scratched due to injury or illness.

Despain GL, the fastest qualifier from two nights of trials on May 12-13, is the 8-5 morning-line favorite. Trained by R.L. “Rick” Robinson for the Garza Laurel Partnership of Laredo, Texas, the sorrel son of Desirio has won two of his three starts and has banked $19,068.

Despain GL drew post 4 and will be ridden by Agustin Silva. Other contenders include Pyc Fun N Fancy, a stakes-winning and graded stakes placed son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon trained by Luz Chavira for owner Jose E. Guzman. A $32,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the bay colt has earned $132,597 from four starts, and his two wins include a head victory in the 330-yard, $61,800 Laico Bird Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds on April 22.

Pyc Fun N Fancy drew post 9 and will be ridden by Daniel Torres.

Reigning world champion Jessies First Down will put his five-race win streak on the line in Saturday’s 440-yard, $250,000 Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1).

A homebred 6-year-old Fdd Dynasty gelding owned by Ted G. Abrams of Houston, Jessies First Down drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo. All five of his wins during his current streak have come at the 440-yard distance, and four have come against graded stakes company.

Michael C. Teel’s AJs High drew post 5 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer Charley Hunt. A homebred 5-year-old son of Apollitical Jess, AJs High is coming off of a third-place finish, a neck behind winner Vf Red Surprise, in the 400-yard, $100,000 Sooner State Stakes (RG1) for Oklahoma-breds on May 6. The gelding ended his 2016 campaign with a fourth-place finish in the Champion of Champions.

The winner of this race will earn a berth in this year’s Grade 1, 440-yard Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments--

Apollitical Scout, a sorrel daughter of Apollitical Jess owned by Preston and Karen Cloud of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, drew post 2 for Saturday’s 400-yard, $297,100 Heritage Place Derby (G1) for 3-year-olds.

Apollitical Scout has won all three of her starts during the current Remington meet, including the 400-yard, $305,000 Remington Park Derby (RG3) for Oklahoma-bred sophomores on April 22. Omar Reyes will ride the filly for trainer Clint Crawford.

Kiss My Heineken, a gelded son of Carters Cartel trained by Eddie D. Willis for owners Jeff Carter and Justin Massey and the fastest qualifier, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jimmy Brooks. Kiss My Heineken is coming off of a two-length victory in the fifth of six trials on May 14, and he was a finalist in last year’s $1.083-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

A full field of 10 distaffers has been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $100,000 Junos Request Stakes (G2). Time For Wine, a 5-year-old Mr Jess Perry mare trained by John Weghorst for owner Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas, is coming off of a one-length win as the 3-5 favorite in the May 14, 400-yard Merial Oklahoma Distaff Challenge (G3). The mare drew post 6 and will be ridden by James Flores.

Weetonas Lafawn, a Valiant Hero filly owned and trained by Dustin Cox, will put her three-race win streak on the line in Saturday’s 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes. A $27,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Weetonas Lafawn has won three of four outs, including the 300-yard, $100,000 Remington Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds on April 23, and she has earned $57,736. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by G.R. Carter Jr.

A full field of 10 Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $50,000 Easy Jet Stakes (RG3). Unconquerable, a son of High Rate Of Return trained by Dee Keener for owner Unconquerable Racing Ltd. and a $30,000 purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, will be ridden by G.R. Carter Jr. from the rail post. Unconquerable has earned $53,864 from three starts, and the gelding’s resume includes a fourth-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Ima China Rush, in the 300-yard, $525,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) on March 25.

Eyesa Shoofly Dandy drew the rail post for Saturday’s 870-yard, $50,000 Remington Distance Championship (G2). Racing for Curtis Smith and Steve Holt from the barn of reigning AQHA champion trainer Judd Kearl, the 6-year-old Gold Medal Jess gelding has won two 870 stakes this season, including the April 6, $50,000 Pauls Valley Stakes (G3) at Remington on April 6. Donell Blake will ride Eyesa Shoofly Dandy.
