Outstanding Group To Race In Trials To Grade 1 Vessels Maturity On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 3, 2017—The road to the Grade 1, $162,600 Vessels Maturity starts on Sunday night with three trials featuring a total of 22 standouts are on tap, and headed by Grade 1 winners BH Lisas Boy, Zoomin For Spuds, Jess Good Reason and defending Vessels Maturity winner He Looks Hot at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The horses with the 10 fastest times will advance to the Vessels Maturity final to be held on Sunday, June 2. The winner of the final will earn a berth to the $750,000 Champion of Champions.

Owned by Jim Walker and trained by Monty Arrossa, Zoomin For Spuds is the defending Champion of Champions winner and now leads the opening trial of the night, which is scheduled as the seventh race on the nine-race card.

To be ridden by Jesus Rios Ayala, Zoomin For Spuds will be making his first start since running second to BH Lisas Boy in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship on February 19.

The Zoomin For Bux gelding was named the AQHA champion 3-year-old last year after winning six stakes races at Los Alamitos, including the Grade 1 Champion of Champions.

He'll enter this race after an eye-catching 220-yard gate work in :12.10 on May 20. Ed Allred's stakes winner Stel Easy, which recently scored an impressive allowance victory here, and Miss Princess Handicap runner-up Time For Jess will also compete in this trial, as will EG High Desert Farms' Dr Jess, the fifth place finisher in last year's Vessels Maturity final.

Bill Hoburg's BH Lisas Boy gets top billing in the second trial as he comes in riding the crest of a three-race win streak. The Mighty Invictus gelding's last victory came by ¾ lengths in the Kaweah Bar Handicap on May 7 - that effort coming after his ½ length win in the Winter Championship over Zoomin For Spuds.

Allred's He Looks Hot will be one of the top contenders in this trial. He'll be looking to become the fifth horse to successfully defend the Vessels Maturity title.

John Sperry's Jess Good Reason has also won her last three starts for trainer Paul Jones. She'll come in after winning the Grade 1 Charger Bar Handicap on January 8. The Good Reason SA filly posted an outstanding :17.80 gate work at 350 on May 27. Reliance Ranches' Flash N Bling, a 1¼ length allowance winner when making his 2017 debut here on May 19, will also see action in this trial.

Rip Tide, another top runner from the barn of Reliance Ranches and like Flash N Bling also trained by Mike Robbins, will head the third and final trial. The horse by Corona Cartel will comes in after a sensational 220-yard gate drill seen here in :11.80 on May 20. He'll be joined in this race by six-time local stakes winner Jess Ravin, winner of the Miss Princess in her last outing, and Kaweah Bar runner-up El Remalcable.
