SELMA, TX—JUNE 22, 2017—A field of eight aged runners, topped by distance specialists He Is The Risingstar and Jrc Callas First, has been entered in Friday’s 550-yard, $15,000 Tower of the Americas Handicap at Retama Park.

He Is The Risingstar will be making his first start since March 18, when the 5-year-old Mr Jess Perry gelding ran second, a neck behind winner Apollitical Man, in the 550-yard, $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes at Remington Park. Trained by L.R. “Tooter” Jordan for owner Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP, He Is The Risingstar has won four of his five starts at the 550 trip, including two stakes at Los Alamitos last winter.

He Is The Risingstar drew post 3 and will be ridden by Jose A. Alvarez.

The sport’s world champion in 2014, Jrc Callas First is a 7-year-old son of Winners Award racing for Brian and Dana Stroud and trained by Brian Stroud. The bay gelding has won 17 of 32 races, including six of seven at the 550-yard distance, and he has banked $619,117.

Jrc Callas First drew post 7 and will be ridden by Juan F. Garcia Jr.
