SELMA, TX—JUNE 29, 2017—A pair of stakes, headlined by the 350-yard, $95,540 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (RG3), tops Retama Park’s 10-race program on Saturday.

Shades Of Gray, a gray son of Ivory James and the fastest qualifier, drew post 7 for the TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity. Trained by Javier Contreras for owner Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez, the gelding has earned $5,036 from three races, and he was a finalist in the 300-yard, $234,000 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs on March 22.

Shades Of Gray broke his maiden with a one-length victory in the first of seven trials on June 16. Jorge Linares will ride the gelding on Saturday.

TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby

A full field of 10 3-year-olds has been entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $55,190 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby (R).

Chad and Esmeralda Peck’s Zoomin N Celebrating, the fastest qualifier, is coming off of a three-quarter length win in the first of four trials on June 17. The sorrel daughter of Azoom has won four of five starts and has banked $17,010, and her resume includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Thriving Ivory, in the 300-yard, $15,000 Sam Houston Distaff Stakes on May 22.

Zoomin N Celebrating drew post 6 and will be ridden by Noe Villatoro for trainer Judd Kearl.
