Quarter Horse Stakes, Trials Dominate Canterbury’s Sunday Card

SHAKOPEE, MN—JULY 1, 2017—Six Quarter Horse races, headlined by the richest-ever running of the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity, will be featured on Canterbury Park’s 11-race program on Sunday.

Olivias Jett, a homebred bay daughter of Desirio racing for Patrick Swan and the fastest qualifier, headlines a field of 10 2-year-olds in Sunday’s 350-yard, $167,600 Mystic Lakes Northlands Futurity. Trained by Tomey Swan, the filly won the last of six trials on a sloppy and sealed track on June 11 while scoring her second win in three outs.

Olivias Jett drew post 2 and will be ridden by Marcus Swiontek.

The Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity will be run as the sixth race. Post time is scheduled for 3:09 p.m. (CST). The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity (R)

Duane Murphy’s Bs Special is the 3-1 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s 350-yard, $45,765 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity (R).

A brown daughter of Freighttrain B trained by Casey Black, Bs Special made her Canterbury Park debut with a three-quarter length win in the last of three trials on June 17. The filly has won two of four races, including a 250-yard maiden-special-weight dash at Remington Park in her debut on April 6, and she has earned $17,589.

Bs Special drew post 10 and will be ridden by David Pinon.

Also on Sunday, a field of nine 2-year-olds has been entered in the 350-yard, $18,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile Stakes.

Trainer Jason Olmstead will send out three contenders, topped by morning-line favorite Eagle Deluxe. A Louisiana-bred son of One Famous Eagle, the colt has earned $5,481 four outs for his owners, Tom Maher, Bill Maher, and Movin On. Eagle Deluxe drew post 4 and will be ridden by Brayan Velazquez.

Twenty-seven sophomores have been entered in Sunday’s 400-yard Canterbury Park Derby trials. Bout Tree Fiddy, a homebred son of Ivory James trained by Tomey Swan for owners Patrick Swan and Carry Allred, is coming off of a half-length victory at odds of 14-1 in the 350-yard, $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park on May 29. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Marcus Swiontek in the second of three trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 16, $65,000-est. Canterbury Park Derby.
