Krash Course Looks to Make a Splash in Rich TQHA Sale Futurity

SELMA, TX—JULY 27, 2017—Krash Course, a gray son of the Corona Cartel stallion and the fastest qualifier, will seek his first stakes victory in Saturday’s 350-yard TQHA Sale Futurity (RG2) at Retama Park.

With a purse of $435,680, the TQHA Sale Futurity is the richest race of the year for any breed at Retama Park. The race will be the ninth on the track’s 10-race program and will share the marquee with the 400-yard, $156,600 Retama Park Derby.

Trained by Jose Sanchez for owner Martha Nevarez, Krash Course was purchased for $10,000 at last year’s TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio. The colt has earned $7,140 from three outs, and his two wins include a 1 1/2-length victory in the ninth of 11 TQHA Sale Futurity trials on July 14.

Krash Course drew post 8 and will be ridden by Jose Martinez.

T C Flack’s Just Another Natural is the lone stakes-placed runner in the field, as the brown daughter of Furyofthewind ran second, a neck behind winner Daddys Blushing, in the 330-yard, $48,000 Sam Houston Juvenile Invitational Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on April 29. The second-fastest qualifier, the filly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon for trainer Leon Bard.

Retama Park Derby

Fastest qualifier Dash Quick Perry drew the rail post for Saturday’s Retama Park Derby.

Trained by Leon Bard for owner Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas, Dash Quick Perry is a homebred son of the First Down Dash stallion Down N Dash. The sorrel gelding has won three of four starts and has banked $49,386 this year, and his season resume includes a second-place run in the 350-yard, $198,000 Sam Houston Derby (G3) on April 29..

Francisco Calderon, Dash Quick Perry’s jockey for all of his outs this season, will ride the gelding on Saturday.

Leonardo Alcala’s As and Js drew post 8 and will be ridden by Gerardo Garrido for trainer Juvenal Licona-Vazquez. A bay daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess and runner-up to Dash Quick Perry in the second of five trials on July 15, the filly was coming off of a spring campaign during which she ran third, a half of a length behind winner Apollitical Scout, in the 400-yard, $305,000 Remington Park Derby (RG3) for Oklahoma-bred sophomores on April 22.
