Half-Brother to All American Futurity Finalist Tops Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 19, 2017—Red Diamond, a brother to RG1 winner Bigg Daddy, fastest qualifier for the $3 million All American Futurity(G1) today at Ruidoso Downs, topped the 2017 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Quarter Horse Yearling Sale Saturday night.

John Lee and Melvin Neugebauer paid $85,000 for the gelding by Jesse James Jr out of AQHA Racing champion Alice K White by First Down Dash. MJ Farms, Agent was the consignor.

Earlier on Saturday Newgebauer's Bigg Daddy, a Big Daddy Cartel gelding out of Alice K White, drew off to a 2-¾ length win in the seventh trail for the All American Futurity(G1) to post the fastest time of :21.611 seconds from 28 trials run over two days. Winner of the RG1 Zia Futurity last month, Bigg Daddy sold for $25,000 in the 2016 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale and has banked $211,418 this season.

The high-seller, Red Diamond, is also a brother to AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Filly Astica ($411,623).

The two-day sale ended Saturday night with 140 of the 172 state-bred yearlings offered grossing $1,596,000 compared to 140 yearlings last year that brought $1,682,300.

The 2017 average fell to $11,400 compared to $12,016 last year and median dropped to $7,500 from $8,000 in 2016.

Bobby Simmons and Mark McClox purchased the first session high-seller J Gatsby from the consignment of MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith. The < Jesse James Jr gelding out of Maggies Miracle LX is a brother to RG2 Zia Derby winner Percyjones ($241,972, to 3 2017), RG2 winner Datona Doll ($193,941), and RG2-placed Tricks My Pick ($111,731), etc.

MJ Farms, Agent also consigned the third high-seller, June Bug Daddy, who brought a final bid of $45,000 in Saturday's session. Dwayne Johnson purchased the Big Daddy Cartel gelding out of Sandy June Bug by Blushing Bug. The gelding is a half-brother to RG3 winner Junior June Bug ($289,078), and a brother to RG3 winner Daddys Blushing ($183,581 at 2, 2017).

John Lee and Melvin Neugebauer was the sale's leading buyer with the one purchase for $85,000. Mark McClox and Bobby Simmons paid $65,000 for their one purchase and Aldai Transport LLC bought two yearling totaling $60,000.

MJ Farms, Agent led all consignors and agents with 31 yearlings selling for $575,800. Double LL Farms, Agent had 48 yearlings gross $444,600 and MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith had two yearlings for $79,500.

Jesses James Jr was the leading sale sire, by average with two or more sold, with 19 yearlings averaging $17,168. Big Daddy Cartel had 28 yearling at $16,711 and First Class Sign had two yearlings average $15,000. Eye On Corona was the leading first-crop sale sire with four yearling averaging $8,875.
