SELMA, TX—AUGUST 30, 2017—Fastest qualifier Audi Murphi drew post 2 for Saturday’s rescheduled 350-yard, $173,700 Gillespie County Fair Futurity at Retama Park.
Trained by Josue Ponce for owners Bobby D. Cox and Kristen Paredes, Audi Murphi broke his maiden with a 1 1/2-length victory in the second of 11 trials on August 13. The homebred Valiant Hero colt is out of the multiple graded stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare Jess A Lil Bit More, and he has earned $5,645 from four outs.
Jose A. Alvarez will ride Audi Murphi on Sunday. The colt’s nine opponents include Holly Hooper’s Tacky Lil Groundhog, a graded stakes placed daughter of Tac It Like A Man trained by Angel Sanchez. Tacky Lil Groundhog has banked $24,278 from four races, and her resume includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Dashin Red Cat, in the 350-yard, $96,000 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park on July 1.
