GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 12, 2017—Double H Racing Investments LLC’s Mega Hero, a stakes-winning son of Jet Black Patriot, is one of 69 3-year-olds entered in Friday’s 440-yard Dash For Cash Derby (G3) trials at Lone Star Park.
Mega Hero will be making his first start since June 30, when the gelding scored a half-length victory as the 4-5 favorite in the 400-yard, $173,000 Firecracker Derby at Delta Downs. Mega Hero has won all four of his outs and has banked $123,648 this season.
Mega Hero drew post 9 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez for trainer Saul Ramirez Jr. in the first of seven trials.
Apollitical Scout, a graded stakes winning daughter of Apollitical Jess owned by Preston and Karen Cloud of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, drew post 9 in the second heat. The filly is coming off of a Remington Park spring campaign during which she won the April 22, $305,000 Remington Park Derby (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds and ran second, 1 3/4 lengths between winner Hold Air Hostage, in the June 3, $297,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2).
