Trials Dominate Prairie Meadows Saturday Program

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 28, 2017—Stakes winners A Jordon Reed and PV Queen Bee Candy are among the 61 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 350-yard Valley Junction Futurity trials at Prairie Meadows.

A homebred gray son of Jumpn Chic trained by Ed Hardy for owner the Kendrix Brothers, A Jordon Reed is coming off of a half-length victory in the 350-yard, $168,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury Park in Minnesota on July 2. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Oscar Delgado in the first of seven trials.

PV Queen Bee Candy will be making her first start since May 29, when the homebred bay daughter of Cartels Candy Man scored a three-quarter length victory at odds of 13-1 in the 330-yard, $61,800 FL Lady Bugs Stakes (R) at Remington Park. Clinton Crawford trains the filly for owner Gordon Pevehouse.

PV Queen Bee Candy drew post 5 and will be ridden by Omar Reyes in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Saturday’s Valley Junction Futurity trials will meet in the $225,000-est. final on October 14.

Also on Saturday, 15 Iowa-bred sophomores have been entered in two 400-yard Polk County Derby (R) trials.

Lil Stepper, a homebred Lil Kool Wagon gelding trained by Stacy Charette-Hill for owners Michael Pohl and Bob Urich, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Jorge Torres in the first heat. Lil Stepper made his Prairie Meadows season debut with a neck victory in the 400-yard, $68,000 Iowa Stallion Derby (R) on September 3.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $125,000-est. Polk County Derby final on October 14.
