Trials Dominate All-QH Program at Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—OCTOBER 6, 2017—Three sets of trials dominate Saturday’s nine-race all-Quarter Horse card at Indiana Grand.

A total of 36 state-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in four 350-yard Miss Roxie Little Futurity (R) trials. Patrick Richardson’s Stone Cold Leader, a brown son of Brookstone Bay trained by Erin Thompson, will put his five-race win streak on the line from the rail post in the fourth heat.

Stone Cold Leader has won five of six starts and has earned $187,496. All five of the gelding’s victories have come at Indiana Grand and include the 300-yard, $184,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity (R) on June 17, and the 350-yard, $177,000 Indiana Stallion Futurity (R) in his most recent out on August 26.

Apollitical Regard, a stakes-winning daughter of Apollitical Jess trained by Matt Frazier for owner Duke Racing LLC, will be making her first start since June 17, when she scored a neck victory in the 300-yard, $124,000 Jaguar Rocket Stakes (R) for Indiana-breds. The filly drew post 6 in the third trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 21, $100,000-added Miss Roxie Little Futurity final.

Also on Saturday, graded stakes winner La Vencedora is one of 17 2-year-olds entered in a pair of 350-yard Governor’s Stakes trials. Trained by Larry Sharp for owners Jon Barley and Brant Barley, La Vencedora has earned $385,456 from just four starts, and her three wins include a head victory at odds of 9-1 in the 330-yard, $1.002-million Remington Park Futurity (RG2) for Oklahoma-bred juveniles on April 22.

La Vencedora drew post 6 in the second heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000 Governor’s Stakes final on October 21.

Finally on Saturday, 16 3-year-olds, topped by recent local stakes winner Tommy The Train, have been entered in two 400-yard Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana Derby trials.

Tommy The Train is trained by Larry Sharp for owners Jon Barley, Brant Barley, and Brad Sharp. A bay gelding by Freighttrain B, Tommy The Train has won all four of his starts at Indiana Grand, and he has won a pair of stakes over the track.

Tommy The Train will race from post 4 in the first trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will face off in the October 21, $100,000-added QHRAI Derby final.
