Director’s Handicap and Multnomah Falls Stakes Offer A Double Feature At Portland

PORTLAND, OR—OCTOBER 6, 2017—The Columbus Day program at Portland Meadows will put the spotlight on two stakes events with the running of The Director’s Cap’ for Quarter Horses worth $11,000 added and The Multnomah Falls Stakes for Thoroughbred Fillies and Mares with a $10,000 added value.

In the third race of the Holiday program, three year olds and upward will dash 350 yards as morning line favorite Sorelli will take on eight others in the first Quarter Horse stakes event of the season at Portland Meadows.

The five-year-old mare by Brookstone Bay won five races last year for The Warlock Stable and Kelly Dougan. Trained by Rody Barrett, Sorelli won a prep race at Sun Downs and though unplaced in the following stakes outing, she did manage a stakes placing at Prineville last July.

The Oklahoma-bred mare will be ridden by Jake Samuels from the outside post position in her season debut.

Looking to steal the show however will be morning line longshot and Los Alamitos invader Absolutely Kool. Saddled by Silvestre Sanguino, the three-year-old filly by Stel Corona is fresh off of a claiming win at Los Alamitos and though untested at the stakes level, the young filly turned in a respectable time of 17:10 for the 330 yards over the fast track. Jockey Armando Cervantes will do the guiding for the Cal-bred filly who makes her 19th start lifetime.

Hillary Durham’s L Bar D Genuine Red will be looking to pick up his first win of the year after winning last year’s Far West Futurity at Portland Meadows.

Regular pilot Kassie Guglielmino will be aboard the three-year-old son of Genuine Strawfly as the Oregonian-bred tries to nab his fourth career score. Hailing from The Hayden Brothers Ranch, Tickle Your Fancy will bring her eight-win record into The Director’s Cap’ after winning three from her last four starts.

Trained by Hector Magallanes with Eduardo Sosa to pilot, the four-year-old daughter of Dominyun was second best in last year’s Portland Meadows Winter Derby.

Silvies will likely menace after a game win at Emerald Downs vs allowance company. Owned by Roberto Guzman and trained by Pablo Madrigal, the five-year-old mare by Mitey Jody has proven to be a gem of consistency by finishing no worse than second in eight of her last ten starts. Jockey Lorenzo Lopez will ride the five-year-old mare.

Trainer Pablo Madrigal will also have Augie Meyer in the dash who is no stranger to this type of company. The five-year-old Canadian-bred rival just missed by a nose against many of the same opposition but was disqualified to fourth.

Also in the field will be Kishme for Trainer Nick Lowe, Kishme won three races spanning from last year to this year at Los Alamitos, Kishme will be ridden by Luis Gonzalez.

BH Country Chrome is the only Paint in the race trained by Silvestre Sanguino with Jose Guerrero to ride. The registered Paint has seen these rivals before and boasts a win last November in allowance company at Portland.

Shez Sneakin Fast Trained by Scott Raley won three races last year and was placed second in The Portland Meadows Fall Derby. Jockey Robrty Burney will get the leg up to guide the four-year-old mare by Heza Fast Dash.

Multnomah Falls Stakes

Fillies and Mares will converge at five and one half furlongs in The $10,000 added Multnomah Falls Stakes which will be the ninth race of the day on a ten-race card.

The speedy Ila View brings her front running style into The Multnomah as she takes on eight other fillies and mares. Owned by Doug Clausen and Trained by Debbie Peery, the four-year-old filly by Rallying Cry will open up as the 2-1 morning line favorite with Leonel Camacho-Flores to ride.

Post time is 12 noon (PST) for The Monday card which offers ten races. Admission & parking are free. Fans are reminded that Portland Meadows will host its first Dollar Day at the races on Sunday, October 22nd featuring $1 Beer, Hot dogs, soft drinks and programs.
