$145,000 Broodmare Tops Los Alamitos Equine Sale

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 8, 2017—A Grade 2 producing daughter of A Regal Choice took top billing in two sessions of the just concluded 13th Annual 2017 Los Alamitos Equine Sale held Saturday and Sunday at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Hip 309, Annas Babe, dam of RG2 winner Ajs Anna Smoke, sold to JGA Racing Stables, Inc. for $145,000. Consigned by Firth Ranch, Agent, the 8-year-old stakes-placed daughter of leading producer Babe On The Fly was part of the MacPherson Trust Dispersal. She sold with an embryo to Separatist, which will be a full sibling to Ajs Anna Smoke.

A total of 230 head were sold for a gross of $4,739,000 out of 296 offered, resulting in a 11.5% increase over last year's gross of $4,249,600 on 221 head sold. This year's average of $20,604 was up 7.1% over last year's $19,229. The Median enjoyed a 17% gain to $13,250 compared to $11,000 in 2016.

"You are always looking for opportunities, especially for a producing mare," said Juan Aleman of JGA Stables. "Annas Babe threw that very good Separatist colt (AJS Anna Smoke) and when we saw her in the sale we were interested. She crosses well with Apollitical JessA Regal Choice, Hip 259 Dont Pass Bar, was the second high-seller at $102,000. Steve Burns purchased the dam of champion aged mare Quirky from the consignment of Edward C. Allred. The half-sister to Grade 1 winner Ynot Walk sold with two embryos by Stel Corona and Favorite Cartel.

Juniors Quarter Horses Inc. paid $100,000 for the high-selling yearling, Hip 215 Special Of Course, a colt by Walk Thru Fire from the Strawfly Special mare Special And Proud. Consigned by Edward C. Allred, the sorrel colt is a brother to Grade 1 placed Sale Topper.

Lethal Lil, a filly by leading sire Corona Cartel, was the high-selling yearling filly of the two-day sale. La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC paid $90,000 for Hip 102 consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for P.K. Thomas. She is out of the stakes winning Dean Miracle mare Lethal Delight. Lethal Lil is a sister to stakes-placed Lethal Cartel and half-sister to All American Futurity(G1) winner JM Miracle and Ruidoso Juvenile winner Lethal Express.

Hip 198, Powerful Favorite, brought a final bid of $90,000 on Sunday from Rosenthal Ranch Trust. Burns Ranch, Agent consigned the Favorite Cartel colt out of Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Remember Me Rose by Corona Cartel. The sorrel colt is a brother to the 2017 two-year-old The Revenant, who finished third in the $400,000 PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity(G3) Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

Edward Allred was the sale's leading buyer with 11 purchases grossing $311,500. Carmen Villalobos had six for $259,000 and JGA Racing Stables, Inc. bought three head for $220,000.

Burns Ranch, Agent was the leading consignor or agent with 47 head grossing $1,266,200. Edward C. Allred sold 29 horses for $865,500 and Firth Ranch Agent had 20 sale for $570,200.

Corona Cartel was the leading yearling sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with five head averaging $48,300. Walk Thru Fire say 20 yearlings average $40,610 and Mr Jess Perry had three for $34,833. Coronado Cartel was the leading first-crop sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with seven head averaging $12,929.

Third-crop sire Favorite Cartel was the leading covering sire (by average with two or more sold) with three in-foal mares for $31,000. Stel Corona had two for $7,500.
