Red-Hot J Fire Up Heads Golden State Million Futurity Trials On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 21, 2017—Led by Darling Farms, Jaime Gomez, and Ernesto Solis’ J Fire Up, the winner of the Governor’s Cup Futurity, and JGA Racing Stables’ Fire And Sass, the winner of the Kindergarten Futurity, a total of 75 juveniles will compete in a full-night of 10 trials to the Grade 1, $938,850 Golden State Million Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

First post is 5:22 p.m. for this all Quarter Horse racing card. The horses with the 10-fastest times in the 400-yard trials will advance to the Golden State Million final to be held on Sunday, November 5.

In addition to being part owner of the red-hot J Fire Up, Gomez also bred and trains this terrific Kiddy Up filly. Out of the Walk Thru Fire mare This Boogie Fires, J Fire Up has made five career starts and she’s been first or second in every one of them.

She ran second in her career debut against maidens on March 12, but then won her trial to the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity on June 4. She was flying late in the $1,000,000 Ed Burke final and ended up second to the still unbeaten, multiple stakes winner KVN Corona in that race.

J Fire Up has won back-to-back starts since then, posting a ¾ length win in her Governor’s Cup Futurity trial before coming back to score a similar ¾ length win in the final against two top-notch juveniles in Chance To Fire, who had previously run third in the Ed Burke Million, and The Revenant, who then finished third to KVN Corona in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity on October 7.

At the top of her game, J Fire Up figures to be difficult to defeat in her Golden State Million trial, which is the ninth of 10 trials on the card. To be ridden by Jose Nicasio, J Fire Up also draws the outside post number eight for this race. She won from the outside post number nine in her Governor’s Cup trial back on July 8. J Fire Up also comes into this race as the richest of the 75 juveniles in action with $330,525 in earnings.

Abigail Kawananakoa’s Chance To Fire is the second richest runner of the night with $188,900 to his name. The Walk Thru Fire gelding will be in action in the evening’s opening trial, taking on a field that will include Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist One Sweet Barbie and Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes participant Magic Corona MV.

Fire And Sass is the other futurity winner in action. The Walk Thru Fire gelding will headline the fourth trial of the night, a heat that will also feature Lucky Seven Ranch’s Devil In A Blue Suit, a gelding out of the 2007 AQHA World Champion Blues Girl Too, Paul Blanchard’s Coronated, a full-brother to three-time Grade 1 winner Pyc Paint Your Wagon, and John Andreini and Vince Genco’s Extremely Racy, from the family of Grade 1 winner Miss Racy Jess and the aforementioned top stallion Kiddy Up.

Fire And Sass, a winner of $132,397, will be looking for his third win in seven career starts for trainer Juan Aleman.

Fire And Sass’ stablemate California Eagle could be a major player on Sunday night. The Legacy Ranch-bred runner is a half-brother to AQHA champion 2-year-old filly Flying Fig and 2017 Grade 1 Ed Burke Million finalist Platki. A winner of the Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes, California Eagle will head the third trial on Sunday.

Prior to California Eagle’s race, Thomas Lepic and Darlin Farms’ The Fiscal Storm will be in action in the second trial on Sunday. The Fiscal Storm is a full brother to 2017 Grade 1 Bank of America Championship Challenge winner The Fiscal Cliff. Steve Burns’ Just Walk By, the runner-up in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity, will also compete in the second heat.

Ron Hartley’s The Revenant, third in both the Governor’s Cup and PCQHRA Breeders futurities, will head the fifth trial of the night, while EG High Desert Farms’ Ed Burke Million Futurity finalist Remember To Dash will head the sixth trial.

Rockin Asteroid, who ran in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity, and Indescribaly Blue, who ran in the Ed Burke Million final, head the seventh trial, while recent allowance winners Madam Of Fire MV and Matilda Czech will face-off in the eighth trial.

The Golden State Million trials will come to a close with a meeting between promising runners Black Fryday, from the Hartley and John Cooper stable, and Delight Won, an allowance winner owned by Randy Geiselman and Lila Kessinger.
