Chowchilla Chickadee To Make Stakes Debut On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 15, 2017—Bill Absher and Leland Decker's Chowchilla Chickadee, who has been sensational in her three career starts, will make her stakes debut in Saturday’s $20,000 Corona Chick Handicap for 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos.

The Corona Chick will be contested at 400 yards and is slated as the 8th race on the nine-race card.

To be ridden by Cesar De Alba for trainer John Cooper, Chowchilla Chickadee has blown away the competition in all three of her wins.

The Foose filly out of the Buzz Word mare Buzz Chick broke her maiden by 2 3/4 lengths on September 9 and then posted back-to-back allowance wins, each by 1 3/4 lengths. Her allowance win on October 1 was the night's fastest of four 300-yard clockings.

Chowchilla Chickadee then came back with another daylight win at 330 yards, a race in which she was never challenged. Chowchilla Chickadee has led her rivals by daylight in every single point of call.

"She's always been very easy to get along with and very professional," De Alba said. "Obviously, she can run quite a bit. She's still learning to run."

Chowchilla Chickadee will be joined in the Corona Chick by Lesley Joyner’s talented Jesstacartel, winner of the Autumn Handicap in his last start. Trained by Mark Skeen, the gelding by One Sweet Jess has won his last three starts after debuting with a fifth-place finish. His wins have included an allowance race on September 24 and a solid 1/2 length win in the Autumn at 350 yards.

Omar Placentia’s Kindergarten Futurity finalist Perfect Az Can Be, the only runner in the field with experience at 400 yards, PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalist Hard Headed Chick, and California Blossom, a winner of her last two starts, will also race.
