HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 29, 2017—An overflow field of a dozen 2-year-olds, including two also-eligible entries, has been entered in Sunday’s 440-yard, $200,000 Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) at Zia Park.
RC Racing LLC’s A Passion For Flashn, a brown son of champion First Moonflash trained by Martin Orona Sr., is the 7-2 morning-line favorite. The gelding will be stretching out in distance off of his neck victory as the 2-1 choice in the 400-yard, $300,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park on October 29.
A Passion For Flashn has earned $200,776 from nine outs, all in New Mexico. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez.
Other contenders include Carris Cartel, a homebred daughter of The Louisiana Cartel trained by Edelmiro Carrizales for owner Nancy Carrizales. Carris Cartel is coming off of a neck victory in the 350-yard, $130,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows on October 14.
Carris Cartel drew post 2 and will be ridden by Santos Carrizales.
