SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 3, 2018—Zee James, the fastest qualifier and 9-5 morning-line favorite, is one of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 300-yard, $396,354 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Trained by Wes Giles for owners Robert M. Driggers and Ben Lee Ivey, Zee James made her debut with a dominating 3 3/4-length victory in the last of 11 trials on March 16. The homebred bay daughter of Jesse James Jr drew post 9 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos.
Second-fastest qualifier Cat Daddys Lil Girl drew post 5 and will be ridden by Mauro Salcedo. A homebred Big Daddy Cartel filly trained by Donna McArthur for owners Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez, Cat Daddys Lil Girl is coming off of a half-length victory at odds of 32-1 in the eighth Spring Futurity trial.
This year’s New Mexican Spring Futurity will offer a stakes-record purse. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
