SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 9, 2018—Joe Rios’ Suze Returns, the fastest qualifier and 2-1 morning-line favorite, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 300-yard, $269,527 West Texas Futurity (G2) at Sunland Park.
An Oklahoma-bred daughter of High Rate Of Return, Suze Returns was a $13,000 purchase by Rios at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City. The filly made her debut with a decisive 2 1/4-length victory in the fifth of 10 West Texas Futurity trials on March 23.
Suze Returns drew post 8 and will be ridden by Jaime Leos for trainer Juan M. Gonzalez. Her nine opponents include Steamin Eagle, a sorrel son of One Famous Eagle trained by John M. Cooper for owner Jack Manning. An $85,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the colt is coming off of a 1 3/4-length win as the 7-5 favorite in his West Texas Futurity trial.
