OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 12, 2018—Graded stakes winner DF AJ Green Leaves, a sorrel daughter of Apollitical Jess racing for Darling Farms, is one of 71 sophomores entered in Sunday’s 400-yard Heritage Place Derby (G2) trials at Remington Park.
DF AJ Green Leaves is coming off of a 1 1/4-length victory at odds of 45-1 in the 400-yard, $317,000 Remington Park Derby (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds on April 21. The filly drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jose Alvarez for trainer Jimmy Padgett in the fifth of eight trials.
Other prominent 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s trials include Sugars First Love and Onewickedchick, the runner-up and third-place finisher, respectively, in the 350-yard, $218,000 Oklahoma Derby (G3) on March 24. Sugars First Love is a daughter of champion Tempting Dash trained by Blane Wood for owners Sandy and Randy Coleman. Ricky Ramirez will ride the filly from post 5 in the first heat.
Onewickedchick races for Francisco Vega from the barn of trainer Manuel Almanza Jr. A homebred Chicks Regard filly, she has earned $29,800 from just three outs, all at Remington Park. Edwuin Lujan will ride Onewickedchick from post 3 in the fourth trial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the June 2, $100,000-added Heritage Place Derby final.
