LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 18, 2018— The Grade 2, $321,800 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity will bring together a strong field of 2-year-olds led by stablemates SC Money Maker, SC Coronada and Pack Light, a trio of talented young runners owned by Reliance Ranches, plus seven other young stars in the 300-yard dash on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

The Kindergarten is the 10th and final race on the card, which will get underway at 5:40 p.m. at the Orange County oval.

To be ridden by Oscar Peinado for trainer Mike Robbins, SC Money Maker is the 7-5 favorite in the Kindergarten final after posting the fastest qualifying time in the trials of :15.31 at 300 yards on May 6.

His time was nearly a length faster than the clocking posted by second fastest qualifier Striver of ;15.44. SC Money Maker came into this race after running third despite being bumped in the $371,000 Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park on March 24. The gelding by Pyc Paint Your Wagon won his Kindergarten trial by 1-¼ lengths.

"He’s been doing great and we’ve just been maintaining him," Robbins said. "There’s not a whole lot to do with him between the trials and the final. We’ve just galloped him and stood him one. He’s been good. He’s one of those kind of horses that does well wherever you take him. Nothing bothers him. He’s really professional about everything."

The Coronado Cartel filly SC Coronada is a half-sister to SC Money Maker, as they’re both out of the champion mare Spit Curl Diva. Robbins said SC Coronada is doing much better after being a big under the weather prior to the trials. She’ll be ridden by Stormy Smith in the final.

"I look for her to run a lot better race than she did in the trials," he said. "She had some mucus and a little light cough, no fever or anything like that, prior to the trials. I think she’ll be better in the final."

Pack Light is unbeaten in her two career starts and could provide a big late punch in the Kindergarten final with Cody Jensen up.

"Pack Light just goes up there and does her job," Robbins said. "She seems to be progressing along and getting better as she goes. SC Money Maker and SC Coronada are pretty similar. They have a lot of substance to them - a lot of shoulder and a lot of hip and front end. Pack Light has a little more stretch to her, a little more leg to her. If you’re looking for a quarter of a mile horse, she might be the one you’d pick."

Second fastest qualifier Striver is trained by Scott Willoughby, but is owned by his assistant trainer Juan Carlos Chavez. The Foose filly won her trial by 3/4 lengths over Kindergarten finalist Fast Amanda Rose. "(Striver) is the first horse that I’ve ever owned," said Chavez of his $17,000 purchase at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale last year.

Legacy Ranch’s Wicked Affair, Ruth Barbour and Wendy and Colten O’Dell’s Tac Me Up, EG High Desert Farms’ Fast Amanda Rose, Jones and McIntyre’s Cole Man 47, Norma Cano’s Ms Ko, and Ronnie Brooks Keller’s Delayed Steal will complete the field.
